Thornvale offers thirty marriageable suitors, each with a painted portrait and their own character. Courtship is opposite-sex, as was law and custom in the age.

A suitor's traits colour the match:

• Faithful / Devout — steadfast, very unlikely to stray.
• Gentle — kind and warm; love grows fast.
• Clever — sharp-witted, fine company.
• Proud / Ambitious — status-minded, larger dowry, cooler heart.
• Fiery — passionate, but jealous.

Marriage brings a dowry, companionship, and the chance of children and a dynasty. But hearts can wander: both you and your spouse may stray, with consequences — quarrels, lost happiness and reputation, divorce, or an illegitimate child.
